This international Standard, in conjunction with ISO/IEC 11801, specifies balanced copper, coaxial, and optical fibre cabling systems, and is targeted at homes.  This Standard specifies cabling for three groups of applications, including Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), Broadcast and Communications Technologies (BCT), as well as Commands, Controls and Communications in Buildings (CCCB).  This Standard specifies structure and topology for generic cabling, minimum configurations, performance requirements for permanent links and channels, density and location of connection points, interfaces to application-specific equipment and external networks, and coexistence with other building services.

ISO/IEC 15018 Edition 1.0 “Information Technology – Generic Cabling for Homes” was developed by subcommittee 25: Interconnection of information technology equipment, of ISO/IEC joint technical committee 1: Information technology.  This Standard is to be read in conjunction with ISO/IEC 11801 Edition 2.2.  ISO/IEC 15018 Edition 1.0 was published June 2004.
