The IEEE 802.3 Ethernet Working Group develops standards for Ethernet based local and metropolitan area networks using the following technologies:
  • Ethernet over copper twisted-pair, optical fiber, and direct connect media
  • DTE Power via MDI (Power over Ethernet or PoE)
  • Energy Efficient Ethernet
  • Ethernet backplanes

IEEE Std 802.3™-2018 “IEEE Standard for Ethernet” was developed by the IEEE 802.3 Maintenance Task Force and published in June, 2018. This revised Standard incorporates approved maintenance changes and the content of the following amendments to the previous edition IEEE Std 802.3™-2015 Standard:
